Brett Favre Chooses to Stay Retired

July 29, 2009 by ryno33

brettfavrenewyorkjetsThis is perhaps the most surprising thing I have seen Brett Favre do so far as he gets all the anticipation up for another return and shocks everyone by actually deciding to stay retired. I was completely convinced that there was no way Favre wouldn’t be playing in a Minnesota Vikings jersey next season. The workouts at high schools, the doctors, the speculation, it all lead to what I thought would be the third coming of Brett Favre, but I guess I was wrong.

It did have its appeal, even as a New York Jets fan, you got to admit that Brett Favre playing with a great defense and most importantly the best running back in the game in Adrian Peterson sounded as entertaining as it gets. Yes, he still didn’t have any receivers to throw it to besides rookie Percy Harvin out of Florida, but the propect of Favre becoming a Viking started to grow on everyone.

Obviously it is not going to affect Jets fans as much with the addition of Mark Sanchez, but I would be lying if I said that I didn’t want to see Brett Favre play again. The guy was the best quarterback in the game in my opinion. I have never seen a player enjoy the game more than Brett Favre.

The only problem is now where do the Minnesota Vikings go from here. They had their hopes set on a rebirth of the quarterback of sorts by bringing in a future hall of fame quarterback and now they are left with Sage Rosenfels and Tarvaris Jackson. If I was Vikings head coach Brad Childress, I would take a gamble on Michael Vick.

So even though, once again, we will no longer see Brett Favre again on the gridiron I have to say it was one hell of a run and he will truly be missed!

Can the Steelers Win Another Super Bowl Title?

January 31, 2009 by ryno33

It is no secret by now that the Pittsburgh Steelers are favored to win yet another Lombardi trophy come Super Bowl. Their defense is the best in the league and they have hit their stride just at the right time, but Arizona Cardinals have done nothing but prove everyone wrong this post season.

With constant spread changes and up to the minute injury updates the Super Bowl predictions can change at any given moment and a sure favorite can ultimately change into an underdog any time from now to tip off.

Betting on the Super Bowl is like an American tradition. Whether you have never bet on anything else and have no knowledge of Sports Handicapping, for some reason American love to make the Super Bowl more interesting by places bet or joining a Super Bowl pool.

The problem is most Americans go into betting on Super Bowl Sunday completely blind with no idea who to put their money on. Now you don’t have to! All you have to do is check out Free NFL Picks and get some great advice to become the big winner on the greatest football day of the year!

Rex Ryan Agrees to be New York Jets Head Coach

January 19, 2009 by ryno33

It looks like the New York Jets have gone in a defensive direction by agreeing to terms with Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan to be their new head coach.

Personally, I didn’t agree with the firing of Eric Mangini it seemed like a rash decision by a team that was bitter about not making the playoffs after having a pretty impressive season compared to years past.

Even though getting rid of Mangini was a bad move the Jets did a good job replacing him by adding quite possibly the best defensive coordinator in Rex Ryan.

If Brett Favre decides to comeback and Thomas Jones can repeat his dominance in the running game and Rex Ryan can turn the Jets defense into the defensive powerhouse like he did with the Ravens then the Jets could be scary coming into next season.

The big question here is whether or not Ryan can make the transition from defensive coordinator to head coach. I believe he can, Ryan is part of family of great coaches with his brother Rob Ryan as the defensive coordinator with Oakland Raiders and his legendary father Buddy Ryan who actually won a Super Bowl with the New York Jets in Super Bowl III.

Although getting rid of Mangini was a bad move in my opinion, I think the Jets are headed in the right direction by making Rex Ryan the next head coach.rexryanravens

Jeff Jagodzinski gets Fired by Boston College for Jets Interview

January 8, 2009 by ryno33

Anytime you are warned by your boss that there is a good possibly you will get fired if you do this or that you just don’t do it or you face the consequences. Well, that is exactly what the former football head coach of Boston College Jeff Jagodzinski was warned about. Boston College told him if he went to interview for the New York Jets head coaching job that he would be fired, but Jagodzinski did it anyway.

jeffjagodzinski

Either Jagodzinski didn’t think Boston College was serious threat to fire him or he just didn’t care whether or not they would let him go, either way BC fired Jagodzinski for the Jets interview and now he is unemployed.

Will Jagodzinski get the Jets job? Probably not. So was there a point for doing what he did? Well, if he gets the Jets job somehow, then yeah, but if not, pretty dumb move in my opinion.

Who knows what possessed Jagodzinski to take the interview, maybe he had insider information that he was a guaranteed lock for the job or maybe he just wanted to get out of Boston College and what a better way than to get fired. Whatever the reason this was a weird situation which didn’t really make much sense to me, but I guess if he gets the Jets job will know why he took such a risk.

Brett Favre Leaning Toward Retirement

January 4, 2009 by ryno33

82204745MS003_MAYOR_BLOOMBEIt seems like all the garbage getting thrown Brett Favre’s way might be having an effect as he says he is leaning more toward retiring instead coming back to the New York Jets for another season.

After finishing the season with 22 touchdowns and 22 interceptions Favre didn’t exactly have the season to remember like it was looking half way through the season as the Jets starting quarterback, but everyone knows having Favre behind center for their team is always a step in the right direction.

“it may be time to look in a different direction” said Favre to Mike Tannenbaum who is the Jets General Manager.

Then Tannenbaum told Favre to take a few weeks and think about his decision, which may have not been the brightest idea after last off season’s fiasco with the Green Bay Packers, but at least it shows that the Jets still have faith in Favre even with the recent criticism by fellow teammates after the loss to Miami.

“I’m going to do like Mike says, give it a few weeks and make a decision,” Favre said.

So, once again who knows what Favre’s future will be, but at least he isn’t taking forever to let the fans know what might be in store for the Jets.

Jets Running Back Thomas Jones Says Favre Needed to be Benched

January 2, 2009 by ryno33

Anyone who has followed Brett Favre’s career through the years knows that he has a tendency to turnover the football over by throwing a lot of interceptions, in fact he holds the record for most interceptions thrown all-time.

Jets Inconsistent Offense FootballWith that being said Brett Favre’s interception problem was never most apparent than it was in his final game this season, possibly of his career, when he threw three pics in the loss against the Miami Dolphins.

Usually whenever Brett Favre is on the football field his team has the best chance to win the game no matter what other quarterback might be behind center for the opposing team, but after the total meltdown of a New York Jets team that seemed destine to make the playoffs people and fellow Jets teammates are starting to question whether or not Favre should have been on the field and not on the bench.

“We’re a team and we win together … but at the same time, you can’t turn the ball over and expect to win,” Jones said.

“The other day, the three interceptions really hurt us. I mean, that’s just reality,” Jones told the radio station. “If I were to sit here and say, ‘Oh, man, it’s OK,’ that’s not reality. … I don’t like it, I know everybody else on the team doesn’t like it. If somebody is not playing well, they need to come out of the game, you’re jeopardizing the whole team because you’re having a bad day. To me, that’s not fair to everybody else. You’re not the only one on the team. So when you get to the wire and somebody is just giving the game up, I mean, it’s just not fair.”

I would be lying if I said that Jones didn’t have a legitimate gripe that I didn’t agree with. Favre was playing bad towards the end of the game and some of the interceptions were just ridiculous, so much so that I was wondering what he was thinking when he threw those passes.

Thomas Jones wasn’t the only Jets player to come forward expressing his feeling about Favre safety Kerry Rhodes also had a few things to say.

“In this league, when you’re the head coach or the quarterback and things don’t go well, you’re going to get a lot of the blame,”

“If he’s dedicated and he wants to come back and do this, and do it the right way … and be here when we’re here in training camp and the minicamps and working out with us … then I’m fine with it,” Rhodes said. “But don’t come back if it’s going to be half-hearted or he doesn’t want to put the time in with us.”

Another player who wanted to remain anonymous said that Favre was distant with other players and had an office just for him.

All and all it looks like there was a lot of resentment of Brett Favre in the Jets locker room which seems very un-Favre, but makes you wonder if any of this would have come out if the Jets were in the playoffs.

Brett Favre’s Future

January 1, 2009 by ryno33

Well, here we go again!

It is time to debate Brett Favre’s future in the NFL and with the New York Jets. It is obvious, just like last season, that Brett Favre can still play at a high level in this league. The problem is that he still throws a lot of interceptions, about as much as he throws touchdowns, and he now has an injury that might determine his future.brettfavrejets2

There is no debating that with Brett Favre as the starting quarterback the New York Jets are a much better team, but things are different now. First of all, Eric Mangini is gone, given the boot. Secondly, Tom Brady is coming back next season and the Jets and Favre’s window of opportunity might be over. Lastly, Chad Pennington got the best of the Jets by leading a worthless team right past both the New England Patriots and New York Jets. Not saying that is going to be on Favre’s mind during the deciding process, but it has to be a thorn in his side.

Personally, I hope he comes back. Not only do I actually like what Favre being the starting quarterback for the New York Jets, but I just like watching him play football. I believe he is the last of a dying breed of football players that actually play the sport because they love to play the game and that is always fun to watch as a football fan.

As of right now, I give it a 50-50 chance that we have seen the last of Brett Favre playing in the NFL. Not sure what will be the deciding factor for Favre, whether it be his new injury or whether it be who steps in for Mangini, but I just hope he doesn’t keep us in suspense for the entire off season. If you are going to make a decision Brett, just do it. We all know you love to play football and giving that up is something most of us will never understand, but don’t leave everyone hanging.

Jets Give Eric Mangini the Boot

January 1, 2009 by ryno33

In somewhat of a drastic move by the New York Jets they decide it is time for a coaching change by letting Eric Mangini go.manginifavrejets

In my opinion, Mangini without a doubt deserved another shot at getting the Jets to the playoffs with Brett Favre running the offense.

Yes, the Jets not making the playoffs and Chad Pennington’s Miami Dolphins making the playoffs after beating New York left a pretty bad taste in everyone’s mouth, but was it grounds for firing Mangini, not really.

Either the expectations were way too high or the Jets management already had it out for Mangini.

What ever the scenario was it just didn’t seem right that Mangini take the bulk of the blame by losing his job as head coach. In all honesty, Brett Favre has to be one of my favorite football players of all time, he just defines what a football player and a quarterback should be, tuff and a born leader, but if anyone were to get the blame for the Jets not making the playoffs it should be Favre.

The guy was just a turnover machine just pic after pic after pic. I know he loves being the hero and sometimes heroes have to take chances by throwing the long ball, but at the rate he was throwing pics, especially against Miami, it just got borderline ridiculous.

Is Favre finished? I doubt it, but if he wants to get the Jets to dominate status in the AFC then he is going to have to change some his bad habits.

As for Eric Mangini, I think he might be on to bigger and better things. Even though I would have much rather seen him still prowling the sidelines for the New York Jets, he will not be out of a job for long.
